One more day!

Tomorrow is the BIG day! Spirit week has been going great and T-shirt sales are starting to pick up more and more.

One student had a great idea that we started this week. She drew a giant pink ribbon on some white butcher paper and is asking all students to write down anyone they know who has had breast cancer. This will act as a memorial we will have up through the month of October and displayed at the game.

Today during our planning time we got everything ready for the Pep Rally and took it to the gym and also took what we could to the football field.  Everything looks good for a great game! Tomorrow after school a local pizza shop is donating pizza for our student volunteers and teacher volunteers to eat during game set up. The only thing we should have to do tomorrow is sound check for the pep rally, sound check at the game and put up signs and pink balloons!

Here's to hoping we have a great turn out!

Be on the look out for pictures & a total of what we raised!!!!!

One week!

This week, we folded programs for the game. With 20 kids folding paper, we got all 750 done in no time at all!

Students also made signs for game day (welcome sign, t-shirt, tickets, raffle prizes) and for the pep rally (large junior and senior signs for them to run through).

The game is getting closer and closer! Tomorrow we start collecting selling T-shirts and allowing students purchase chances to pie a teacher of their choice in the face.  The next week is going to be crazy! But we are looking forward to it!

Two Weeks & Counting!

Two weeks until the big game!

Students made signs this week for the Commons in the high school to further help promote the Powder Puff Game & Spirit Week. They also gathered all the supplies we will need for the pep rally.

A couple of students made a program for the game with the players, coaches, cheerleaders, and sponsors of the event. This will be copied and folded next week!

Doesn't sound like much too much this week, but I assure you all kids were incredibly busy.

Teacher Pep Rally Participants & Game Volunteers

Planning is going great!

The male cheerleaders have started to practice after school with some volunteer cheerleaders that want to help. They have learned cheers to do at the game, and will start their dance next week. They always give a good laugh!

Last week, surveys were sent out to teachers asking them to participate in the pep rally (either games or to get pied in the face), and students compiled the information and made a schedule for game volunteers. Students went around to the teachers to get pied in the face and took their picture to go on a bucket, so students can buy tickets and get a chance to have their name drawn for the lucky opportunity.

Students also started to make Thank Yous to the teachers who will participate in Powder Puff in some way and to the vendors that donated a prize.  Now, we will be ready to send those out after the Powder Puff Game.

Students also organized the raffle prizes in a box that can easily be transported to the game.

So proud of these students! They are blowing me away with their commitment to greatness.
Three weeks until the game!!!

Bulletin Boards Up & Pep Rally Planned

This week, a group students put up 6 bulletin boards around the high school with all the information about the game, spirit week, t-shirt sales, information regarding breast cancer, and the local charity we will be donating all funds raised. They look great!

Other students continued contacting local vendors and now we are up to 25 raffle prize donations. Now, we just have to go pick them up!

Other students planned games/events for the pep rally. The Pep Rally schedule will go like this:

  • Intro of Jr/Sr Teams
  • Giant Tug of War between teams
  • Male Cheerleader Dance & Cheer
  • Game 1: Jr & Sr Players
  • Game 2: Teacher vs Teacher
  • Cheerleader Dance & Cheer
  • Game 3: Jr & Sr Captains
  • Game 4: Male Coaches
  • Teacher Pie in the Face
  • Class Cheer Off & School Picture of Everyone wearing Pink

All the games the kids planned are very cute, and I am excited to see them play! I am so lucky I have students that are invested in making the pep rally awesome! I am also fortunate to have a boss that supports our efforts!

T-Shirts and Spirit Week Decided! Vendors Contacted!

In this week's planning meeting, students decided on a T-shirt design and spirit week days. They also started contacting local vendors to donate raffle prizes for the game. So far this week we have 15! I'm excited for the next couple weeks to see who else will donate!

Here is a look at the T-shirt design:

About Powder Puff!

I'm so excited to be once again coordinating Powder Puff at Bloomfield High School this year.  This event is held every October in order to raise awareness and money for the local Cathy Lincoln Memorial Breast Cancer Research Fund of San Juan County, New Mexico.  At Bloomfield High School we turn this into a week of awareness and reflection for the students, and have a ton of fun in the process. This fall, we will hold the 4th annual game to benefit a great charity.  With each year, we have raised more and more money for the Cathy Lincoln Memorial Fund and we hope to do so again this year.

Students volunteer to help plan out this event and meet each week.  We will have the same basic structure as last year:

  • Powder Puff Spirit Week
  • Powder Puff T-shirt Sales
  • Powder Puff Hat Day
  • Win a chance to pie a teacher in the face for $1
  • Powder Puff Pep Rally with events for players, coaches, and teachers
  • Powder Puff Raffle Prizes (at game)
  • Powder Puff Flag Football game, complete with male cheerleaders

In the first two weeks of class, Jr. & Sr. students signed up to play on the team and voted for their captains. Captains are in charge of acquiring uniforms, holding practices, and soliciting help from some football players to be their coaches.

I am excited to get students involved and motivated to help plan this event to make it better than ever!
